On the fifth anniversary of the death of French Philosopher Paul Ricoeur (1913-2005) and with the sponsorship and engagement of the Fonds Ricoeur, the Society for Ricoeur Studies, the International Institute for Hermeneutics, the Campus of Economical and Administration Sciences of the University of Guadalajara through the Principal’s Office and its Technical Secretary, the Department of Social Science and Law, the Coordination of Research,  the Coordination of Learning Technologies, and the Coordination of Extension; the Research group: “Actors, Social Change and Institutions” from University of Guadalajara, the University of Valle de Atemajac and Guadalajara Mayor Office’s, the First Latin American Ricoeur Conference LAMRC 2010 will be joined by different international and Latin American speakers, scholars and students interested in expanding the possibilities of Ricoeur’s vast and prolific philosophical work.

We are interested in building a Latin American and International dialogue in order to analyze and further develop Paul Ricoeur’s reflections on Politics, Ethics and Education, taking into account that philosophy according to Paul Ricoeur must assume a vigilant role, preserving every specific language from all imperialist attempts that try to be imposed on them and then opening a wider dialogue to more participatory reflection (Ricoeur, 2004).

We welcome papers assessing the contributions of Ricoeur’s hermeneutic phenomenology in any one of the areas mentioned above, but also contributions coming from other disciplines and different contexts that can contribute to understanding, expanding, or even to criticize Ricoeur’s Philosophy.
